Felix — or Peng Fei — Yang builds upon his roots in architectural study, developing a visual language that plays with structure and perception without ever feeling constrained by them. Through movement, colour, layered impressions and a mixing of techniques, his work reconfigures reality, memory and imagination into atmospheric compositions shaped by observation and emotion. Contradiction and ambiguity sit at the centre of his practice, where familiar forms dissolve into uncertain spaces and shifting perspectives unsettle fixed ways of seeing. His vantage point allows him to rearrange shapes and colours anew, lessening distance through atmosphere, fragmentation and spatial tension. Formed through ever-changing social and spatial environments, his work reflects on the persistence of place beyond physical presence, where association and imagination transform lived experience into something at once familiar and elusive.
He is a graduate of the schools of architecture at McGill University and University of Waterloo in Canada. His research of visual languages in architecture at McGill University received federal funding through the Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) in 2019.
Felix has exhibited his work in Canada and Germany. His studio is currently based in Berlin.
